Celebrating the contribution to the local music scene from Leah Senior - originally hailing from the south west, Australian-based folk diviner Leah Senior silences audiences with vivid lyricism and a voice that soars with a disarmingly honest Sandy Denny-like clarity. Quietly revered as a master songwriter, she effortlessly weaves together spring-time baroque pop playfulness with a fragile blend of bedroom folk. Her fourth album The Music That I Make (2023, Poison City Records) reveals Leah at her most intimate, her songs a cycle of vulnerable meditations on what it means to create. The Music That I Make transports the listener to her sandstone shack in Anglesea, where autumnal British folk meets late night AM radio.

Leah Senior’s unique style has attracted not only those in the folk world but the likes of many others including the infamous psych rockers King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, Jeff Tweedy, Calexico, Jessica Pratt and more. Just over a year since the release of her second album, today Ali Barter shares her new single ‘Twisted Up’. An anthemic ode to feeling reckless, shoddy haircuts and rash decisions, Barter’s one-two punch of candied vocals and middle-finger-in-the-air lyrics sees ‘Twisted Up’ as a fantastic return to form.

Since returning home to Australia, Barter has been busy making lemonade out of 2020. Back in March, after a challenge from Hobba and Hing and the triple j textline, Barter and Oscar Dawson (Holy Holy) wrote, produced and recorded a song in 24 hours about their lockdown experience. The result was ‘4 Days’, which the duo went on to release as a charity single to benefit Support Act’s COVID-19 Emergency Appeal. Barter also played a 10 date Live from Inside tour of her house, saw the release of the treasured triple j Live At The Wireless recording of her sold out Corner Hotel show from the Hello, I’m Doing My Best tour, hosted a 14 week series of global open mic nights on Instagram live and began recording new material. The first of those isolation sessions is ‘Twisted Up’

Barter’s confessional Hello, I’m Doing My Best struck a nerve with fans worldwide, garnering support at home from triple j, FBi Radio, Sydney Morning Herald, The Music,Tone Deaf and Purple Sneakers, while abroad, Pitchfork, Consequence of Sound, Line Of Best Fit, Clash and The 405 have all thrown support behind the unconventional pop star.
Pre-COVID Barter went global; completing her debut overseas tour, including dates around Europe, performing at Reeperbahn 2019 and whistle-stop shows in Los Angeles and Mexico City. She then returned home to Australia for the Hello, I’m Doing my Best tour which saw her sell out shows in Melbourne and Sydney. Fans in VIC will be able to catch Ali live for the first time since March with a tour of solo shows across the state.

A very special Sunday Session featuring Bart Willoughby and Shane Howard

Shane Howard says Bart Willoughby is ‘the tip of the spear in the modern indigenous song-line’. He is a pioneering Aboriginal Reggae artist best known for the defiant Indigenous anthem “We Have Survived”. A multi-instrumentalist and innovator in his field, he was the first Indigenous artist to score a feature film, the first to sign a record deal and to tour internationally with his band ‘No Fixed Address’

For 40 years Shane Howard has established himself as one of this country’s most influential writers and singers. Howard's songs created a new map of Australia. From the red heart, where he penned his anthemic ‘Solid Rock’, to the wilds of Tasmania that gave birth to ‘Let the Franklin Flow’, he’s created a uniquely Australian voice. His songs also reach across the globe and champion the cause of the common people, the environment and the injustices of colonization.

Howard and Willoughby have performed, written, composed and recorded together for nearly 40 years. This very special ‘one-of’ concert brings together these two iconic Australian songwriters and ‘musical brothers’ who have walked the long musical road - side by side.

Jess Locke recently announced the forthcoming release of her third album, 'Don't Ask Yourself Why'. Recorded with pals and bandmates James Morris and Chris Rawsthorne, along with producer Rob Muinos (Saskwatch, Julia Jacklin). Throughout January and February Locke with head out on the road solo to perform some of the tracks from the new album, along with old favs, when she plays a run of Victorian regional shows.

Kee’ahn was awarded the Archie Roach Foundation Award at the 2020 National Indigenous Music Awards.

With a name coming from the Wik people, meaning to dance, to sing, to play, Kee’ahn aims to honour her name and Ancestors through her soulful music that weaves lush melodies and words reminiscent of heartbreak and healing.

Kee’ahn is a proud Kuku Yalanji, Jirrbal, Zenadh Kes song woman who has recently ventured from her home town in North Queensland, to pursue her dream in the Kulin Nation (Melbourne, Australia).

The Dart and Marlin welcomes Kee'ahn to the stage for our Sunday Backyard Session with support from local songstress Sophia Whitney.

C.W. Stoneking is an artist for whom ‘unexpected’ is probably the default setting. How else to describe such a fine purveyor of American roots music who also happens to be a towering, youthful-faced white Australian man? He surprises first-time listeners, throws curveballs at long-time fans, and everything he does contains at least some background level of bafflement for all involved.

There are multitudes in Stoneking’s music. It’s probably easiest to describe him as a ‘blues artist,’ but the term disguises what makes his music special. There’s so much in there. A 1920s pre-war blues sound is key, but there’s almost equal helpings of New Orleans jazz, jug band music, hokum, country and calypso, and he’s lately brought in elements of jump jive, early rock’n’roll and gospel. His gift is that he brings them all together without anything sounding out of place.

Romy Vager of RVG will be playing in the bar garden as part of our Summer Sunday Series.

A very intimate Sunday garden show with Romy Vager (solo) of RVG.

RVG have made huge strides at home and internationally since releasing their first album to critical acclaim and audience adoration, : the band played an iconic set at Meredith Music Festival, travelled Europe and the UK with Shame (UK) and Sleaford Mods (UK), toured the USA with Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, toured Australia with Kurt Vile (US), Pixies (UK) and POND, showcased at SXSW, The Great Escape and Reeperbahn, performed at Denmark’s renowned Roskilde Festival, and played a BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge session, hosted by Huw Stephens. They also have an arena tour with Faith No More coming up in 2021.

Tomorrow is an intimate solo sit down performace in the bar garden. Get some friends together, get in early for $10 pints between 4pm and 6pm.

Very excited to be hosting the talented Sunnyside this evening for the South West leg of their Australian tour. This time last year the boys headlined Goomfest. What a perfect way to warm up for the weekend. Warming up tonight's proceedings will be Sunnyside DJs and Mangosteez in the garden. Music from 7.30.

This Saturday we kick off a number of backyard benefit gigs with White Bleaches, Indigo Children and Carly. $10 dollars on the door, bbq and cheap cans. All of the door and $5 dollars from every sausage going to the CFA. For the rest of the fire season we will also be donating a $1 from every pint of @twobirdsbrewing lager sold and $5 from every margherita pizza sold at the bar.
